How Jan Works

Achieving successful executive recruitment

The Recruitment Process

A 5-step strategy

Our recruitment process is designed to ensure that we reach out to the largest number of suitable and credible individuals for your opportunity as possible. Our methodology is not therefore reliant on an existing network, and we do not depend solely on an historic database.

Each assignment is proactive and driven by detailed research. We conduct every new search from scratch, using the same exhaustive process.

It is exemplified by the following stages:

Client briefing

Proposal and Candidate Brief Agreed

  • Detailed briefing with you to understand the parameters and output objectives of the role, the required candidate attributes and the culture and marketable features of your business.

  • A Proposal is presented for your agreement with timelines and key milestones included.

  • A Candidate Brief is created and submitted to you for sign off.

Market mapping and candidate attraction

  • The creation of a long-list of target organisations where potential candidates could currently be working.

  • Identification of all possible professionals who fit the criteria of the person specification, not only within the sector but also in any similar sectors.

  • Extended research and name gathering is carried out to identify potential candidates.

  • Any individuals who are attracted via job boards and social media advertising are included in the process.

Head-hunting activity

  • Potential candidates are head-hunted in line with your brief, with initial discussions focusing on their motivation for career progression and advancement.

  • Telephone interviews are then conducted to assess an individual’s core proficiencies and fit for the role.

  • Suitable candidates are subsequently invited to attend a face-to-face interview, to assess overall fit for the role.

  • Following this activity, a long-list of the most relevant candidates is formed.

  • A short-list is then distilled from the long-list of candidates based on a combination of factors, comparing each candidate’s history of achievement, motivation level and alignment to the core competencies required.

Completion and short-list

Upon short-list delivery, you are presented with detailed information on each candidate including:

  • Current remuneration and notice periods

  • An overview of each candidate's expectations

  • Key motivators

  • Relative strengths and weaknesses

  •

A Completion Report is also presented reflecting on the search process and candidates that were identified during the process and what their responses were to the approach.

Management of Client Recruitment Process

As well as maximising the key features of the opportunity, the recruitment process must also minimise risk. Key activity includes:

  • Conducting briefings with both parties prior and subsequent to each interview, constantly checking candidate motivation levels to ensure interest remains high.

  • Potential deal breakers are sought out and managed, including: the risk of counter-offer acceptance, location/relocation issues and remuneration expectations.

  • Unsuccessful candidates are provided with detailed and constructive feedback and left feeling positively treated by the process (and therefore with no negative opinion of your business).

  • We manage the deal-brokering process and final offer/acceptance with the successful candidate.

  • We prepare the successful candidate for resignation and provide continued support until commencement of employment.

  • We are in contact throughout the on-boarding process.

Project Management
& Timescales

Timescales

From the point of client briefing, a shortlist will usually be delivered within a period of four to six weeks. It is anticipated that the total time to hire (inclusive of candidate notice period) will be approximately three to five months.

Fees

The fee is calculated as a % of the candidate’s first year’s remuneration, in 3 instalments as follows:

  • 1/3 - retainer on commencement
  • 1/3 - on delivery of shortlist
  • 1/3 - on offer and acceptance
  •

Where the precise remuneration is not known in advance, the first two instalments of the Introduction Fee are calculated on an estimated basic salary. When the precise remuneration becomes known, the final instalment is based on the actual remuneration and any necessary adjustments are made.

    Guarantee and Warranty

We offer a shortlist delivery guarantee. If we are unable, for any reason, to deliver a candidate shortlist when scheduled, we will refund 50% of the initial retainer fee within 7 working days. We offer an after-placement warranty that ensures the successful placement is guaranteed for a period for 12 weeks from the date of appointment.
